15 May Twelve Sustainable Habits
These 12 habits are a great start to breaking the cycle of confusion, costly advice and outdated beliefs. First, unplug from social media sites and scroll past all the so-called ‘influencers’ (tik/insta). To me these are “snake oil” systems that NEVER teach you realistic, affordable, easily sustainable habits. Don’t let fear and desperation repress logical thinking. Convenience has bred laziness, thereby forgetting real and sustainable OLD SCHOOL ways that the human body understands. These, ah hem… ‘influencers’ know how to manipulate and entice you through your fear, overwhelm and desperation regarding weight and anti-aging products. I laughingly find myself ‘groaning’ every time I hear one!
I am living proof from my past that what you put in damages the inside and shows up on the outside! All my clients look literally ten years younger by the time they are finished with their course!
The following are logical, simple things to keep in mind. Nothing new here – but old school seems to be the winning way nowadays!
Stop avoiding the sun. Sunlight is the body’s natural source of vitamin D! Sunlight boosts melanin. Melanin is produced by melanocytes, specialized cells in the skin, and its function is to PROTECT against UV radiation. It’s your own sunscreen – when you use it correctly! Get morning light in your eyeballs. Do NOT cover them with sunglasses before high noon! Your body will produce melanin and provide protection for you – naturally! A hat is fine or put your visor down if driving in the morning. Don’t cover your eyeballs. Build this habit up and you will build melanin production to protect you. Exposure to sunlight triggers the brain to release serotonin, which plays a role in mood, energy and well-being! Also, wonderful for strong bones. Fear-mongering has made us forget how healing the sun is (in moderation of course).
Stop doing “fad” cleanses and weight loss products. These are not realistically sustainable. They are expensive and don’t teach you how to help your body do it itself. What is worse is we now know they are downright dangerous! How many decades must we all endure until we remember the devastating outcomes of too many of them?
Cleansing automatically begins when you get ALL ultra-processed fake ‘food’ out of your mouth and kitchen! After a few weeks of that, you can then ease into stronger and deeper ways of safely helping purge chemicals stuck in the body and fat cells. Your liver, along with your kidneys are your detoxing organs. There are natural herbal combinations that are safe and strong to unclog these detox organs further to run at peak performance for your body.
The human body knows how to work perfectly! We are not born with toxic synthetic deficiencies! We age into ill health slowly by what we put into the body. I mean seriously… is it chemical deficiency or NUTRIENT deficiency? I vote for the last one. Otherwise, HOW can I and people all over the world reverse so called “life-sentence’ auto-immune diseases and cancers. All those other people did was change the food they consumed. That means you can as well if you want it badly enough.
Drink the cleanest filtered water you can get and drink a LOT of it during the day. I love my Berkey Travel system. I’ve had it forever! At the VERY LEAST drink the equivalent of 8 water bottles a day. I MEAN IT. You will die without water. Read that again! Ha, kind of serious no? Most wouldn’t survive a week without water, they drink so little of it. Your organs and blood, bones and skin (aka: your whole body!) NEED this to be put inside by YOU manually. It does not make it itself. Add crappy food and you accelerate this issue of ‘dry as a desert’ body and organs. Hmmm, constipation anyone? How about brain fog and bloat? Flush and lubricate your body inside! Once it begins to realize it’s being taken care of it will begin to trust you again and do what it’s made to do!
Stop worrying about getting bulky with weights! Always start your overburdened body (overweight and out of shape) where it is first with lighter weights at the beginning and build from the ground up. Exercises that are performed with proper understanding of body mechanics are essential for building strength safely, effectively and without injuries. If you lift heavy when starting out, you will get bulky and more than likely injured because your overweight, out of shape, weak muscled body has no idea how to flex a single muscle and support itself. I teach people how to FLEX all of their muscles first by showing, touching and then doing. We all learn in many different way and I utilize all of them while working with my clients. It’s SO fun to see them delight in their body’s strength building!
Muscle is power on the body and what helps you off the couch, up the stairs and keeps your skeletal system from taking the burden of weight and weakness! Your spine will indeed ‘breakdown’ if your muscular system is not holding it up properly! Not rocket science. We take for granted how beautifully the body is made. Do not start hard and heavy with weights, but build from the ground up. Muscles love to be used! They acclimate in strength quickly.
Hint: To SEE your muscles, you need to release the fat from the frame! To release the fat from the frame you MUST learn how to consume food properly!!
Stop doing tons of hard anaerobic cardio! This type of cardio doesn’t equal better results. Harder is not better. Sweat does not equal a good workout! It more than likely will increase stress hormones on a body already under duress from weight gain, weakness, inflammation and toxicity. A brisk, stretch of the legs and hips that is easily maintained is the perfect form of cardio to build oxygen capacity and endurance in the lungs, heart, blood.
Stop eating your emotions. This coping mechanism is not your friend. Food can’t fix what you won’t face. Learn to heal instead of numbing and repressing. Go for that nice walk and reflect or sit outside with a pen and paper and journal it out. (no typing!)
Stop thinking self-care is selfish. Please. Get over the ingrained guilt of it all already. You are best for yourself and anyone around you when you are healthy and feel good about yourself! Rest and Recover. Establish Strong Boundaries! Take no prisoners when it comes to your health and well being! No excuses. If you want it, then do it, live it, be it. You do you. Let others work on themselves! These aren’t luxuries – they’re necessary for growth both mentally and physically!
Stop being afraid of eating fat. Real fat! Clean fat! I buy three, two pound rolls of Amish butter and call it a day. Even my sons noticed the taste is outstanding when they were here for a visit! You can also buy from local farms. I recently bought some beef suet and reduced it to tallow! That was an experience that I will do better the second time around! Try ghee or authentic (real) olive oil. This is all fabulous for your heart and brain function – as you age! We NEED cholesterol for these to work like a champ as we age! I mainly eat avocado at my morning fast with my two farm eggs in that delicious butter. Yum! Fats don’t make you fat unless they are the chemical toxic ones they put in ultra-processed fake ‘food’ items. Your body doesn’t recognize these and will put that raider in a fat cell to protect the body which makes fat cells bigger! Your body is simply waiting for you to do the right things so it can trust you again to release fat instead of packing it on. Healthy fats balance hormones, support brain and heart health, and keep you full and satisfied with proper nutrients.
Eat REAL protein. Yes, that means meat. It is required as you age to build and sustain energy, weight loss and cellular strength! I purchase all meats from three different local regenerative, grass fed and finished farms that deliver meat and other items to my door. So simple and I love it. It makes grocery shopping a breeze now and boy, do I save money! (My clients will also tell you that they spend less due to eating food properly!). Eating REAL protein at meals, in the correct portions, at the right times, along with a small amount of healthy fat will prolong energy, satiation, and prevent blood sugar spikes. Oh! Did I mention it will help you lose fat off the body? I’m sure I did! 😉
Stop ignoring your gut health. What happens in one, happens in the other. Anxiety? Stress? Emotional overwhelm? Depression? ADD/ADHD? Yea… your gut runs the show honey! Digestion, mood, hormones. Start by tossing all the fake, ultra-processed foods out of your pantry, fridge and freezer! Re-read all the above to help your body detox the gut and heal the gut barrier. Then work with someone who is experienced in safely detoxing a little deeper to keep the body cleansed and working at its highest level.
Stop underestimating your strength! Yes, life is tough for all of us sometimes. However, YOU are still here. You survived the crappy day you had yesterday, last week, last month – whatever! You’re stronger than you think — mentally and physically. You will handle all of it better with healing sleep, clean real foods and a positive outlook!
Stop using alcohol as a social lubricant. You don’t need a drink to have confidence, a personality OR have fun! You need to trust that you’re cool and dynamite regardless! I could say more here, but we all know this will hold you back, age you horridly, bloat you and cause that mean old scale to tell you a sad story the next day! So, while you’re trying to release fat, cut out or drastically minimize use. Get out of the self-sabotage spin cycle.
There is so much more to say, but that is a logical beginning. If you desire deeper and more thorough skills and tools to have eye popping monthly results – reach out! We begin when you decide you are seriously ready to learn, implement, feel and experience the incredible results my clients get for yourself!
Hugs and Blue Skies!
